Health Care Bills Raise Costs: Budget Umpire

Harry-Reid-6 U.S. - Democrats' health care bills won't meet President Barack Obama's goal of slowing the ruinous rise of medical costs, Congress' budget umpire warned on Thursday, giving weight to critics who say the legislation could break the bank. The sobering assessment from Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf came as House Democrats pushed to pass a partisan bill through committees, while in the Senate a small group of lawmakers continued to seek a deal that could win support from both political parties.

All-Star Game: Obama Pitch To Pujols Starts

Obama U.S. - President Barack Obama threw out the night's first pitch with a high and looping curve — like one of Adam Wainwright's killer throws, only 50 mph slower. The Cardinals' own Albert Pujols had to reach down in front of the plate to snag the lefthanded president's pitch. Obama, showing his allegiance with a Chicago White Sox warm-up jacket, pumped his fist and bounded from the mound. He got a hug from Pujols and then shook hands with a row of Cardinals greats. Lou Brock also got a presidential hug.
